During its seventh session, held at Dubai Municipality, which sponsors the award, the Palestinian Housing Council (PHC) won the Dubai International Best Practices Award for Living Conditions Improvement in 2008. The Council was selected from among 500 international participations based on its outstanding impact and contribution to improving living conditions in the Palestinian society and the transfer and dissemination of its expertise in this field.
The Dubai International Award was established under the guidance of the late Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum during the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements held in Dubai in November 1995. The award reflects the policy and commitment of the UAE government towards the sustainable development of human settlements. This award is for participants based on concrete influence, participation and sustainability, taking into account leadership and community advancement through equality and social inclusion. The prize is worth $ 30,000 plus a commemorative plaque awarded to the winner.
The award was presented by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Acting Director-General of Dubai Municipality at the press conference held in Dubai on Thursday 13. Nov.2008. The jury was selected by the United Nations Human Settlements Council (UNCHS) and the United Nations Human Settlements Program. The Palestinian Housing Council is due to receive the award at the beginning of next year at an official ceremony in Dubai.
